How to understand and use AdBlue® in an Audi vehicle?
The German carmaker Audi uses the SCR system in its diesel models. This system uses AdBlue® to treat exhaust fumes.
Several Audi models use AdBlue® to transform nitrogen oxides into nitrogen and steam, which are both harmless to the environment.
The Audi models that use this product give drivers three levels of warnings that the time has come to top up with AdBlue®.
Audi and AdBlue®: the first warning
A signal on the dashboard informs drivers of Audi diesel vehicles that it is necessary to top up the AdBlue® tank. A yellow light comes on when there are 2,400km to go before running short of AdBlue®. This signal is repeated every 100km.
Your Audi tells you when there are only 1,000km left before running out of AdBlue®
Audi diesel models warn you when there are only 1,000km left before you run out of AdBlue®. An orange signal appears on the dashboard. This signal appears every 50km to remind you that you need to top up with AdBlue®.
You must add at least 4 litres of AdBlue® to the special tank to switch off this signal.
Your Audi does not start, because it has run out of AdBlue®
If you do not top up with AdBlue®, despite these warnings, you will no longer be able to start your Audi. When you switch on the ignition, a third warning informs you that you must fill up the AdBlue® tank.
You must add at least 4 litres of AdBlue® to the special tank to restart your Audi.
