What are the benefits of using AdBlue® in a Citroën vehicle?
Citroën installs the SCR system, which uses AdBlue®, in its diesel vehicles in order to reduce NOx emissions. Find out how to use this product in your Citroën vehicle.
Like many other carmakers, Citroën has adopted SCR technology, which uses AdBlue®, to reduce the nitrogen oxide emissions from its diesel vehicles.
For even higher performance, the SCR system in Citroën vehicles works in combination with two other devices:
- the oxidation catalyst,
- the particle filter with an additive.
How far can I drive my Citroën on a tankful of AdBlue®?
Citroën vehicles are equipped with a large (about 17 litres) AdBlue® tank, whose filler cap is next to the fuel filler cap. Consequently, you can cover some 20,000km on one tank of AdBlue®, depending on your driving style.
Once you have covered this distance, an orange indicator lights up on the dashboard to inform you that it is time to top up your AdBlue® tank. At this point, you can still drive 24,000km. If you do not top up, a second red light comes on when there are only 600km left before running dry.
If the tank is almost empty, you will have to add at least 3.8 litres of AdBlue® to switch off the warning light on the dashboard.
Where can I top up my Citroën with AdBlue®?
It is important to fill up with AdBlue® before running completely dry, at which point you will no longer be able to restart if the engine is switched off for more than 30 minutes, as required by the European regulations.
As long as the engine remains running, you can drive to your Citroën garage or a TotalEnergies service station to buy some AdBlue® and top up the tank.
However, in most cases, approved Citroën dealerships fill the AdBlue® tank every time your car is serviced.
Does my Citroën need AdBlue®?
If your Citroën is equipped with an SCR system, then it needs AdBlue®. Make sure by referring to the vehicle handbook or asking your dealer.
